Caviar20 is excited to be offering one of the largest Vasa Mihich "Sphere" sculptures. This example with an exceptional palette was created in 1985. It is an impressive example of the artist's mastery of color and acrylic.
Resting on a custom clear acrylic stand, the sculpture reveals different colors and densities depending on its position or the viewer's. Thin bands of a rainbow of colors including cherry red, tangerine, Yves Klein blue, lime, pale yellow, dusty blue, magenta and turquoise are suspended in a clear acrylic orb.
Mihich is a master of acrylic and has worked with the material for nearly 50 years. His best works, and this is a paradigm, show elements of color that meld, recede, or mutate in to another shade. From certain angles the partial stripes appear to quite thin, in other positions they merge with their neighbor.
This work is also impressive for its size. While it is somewhat difficult to convey scale on a screen, this sculpture is a bit larger than a basketball.
